The 4 and 5 Year Class
Monday, Wednesday, Friday AM - 8:30-11:30 AM - Age 4
Language Arts: The preschoolers are reviewing how to identify and write their first names. Then they will begin learning their last names. Along with a review on the alphabet letters they will be introduced to letters sounds. Students will be engaged in a variety of pre-reading skills such as learning about rhyming words, beginning sounds in words, learning to read high-frequency words and reading small sentences. A typical day includes a whole group read aloud with discussions about the book shared. Many times there is an art activity that ties into the story. Key concepts are introduced through a variety of songs as well including the weather, days of the week, etc.
Math: Math concepts that are introduced in the 3 year old program will be reviewed in the 4 year old program, including shapes, number recognition rote counting and counting objects. They will also be introduced to adding and subtracting and simple story problems.
Science and Social Studies: Students will be engaged in a variety of science experiments throughout the year. They will learn and discuss age appropriate historical events.
Bible Time: The students will be exposed to the Christian teachings through discussion, stories, songs and a variety of other activities. They will also be going into the church to hear teachings from the pastor as well.
Gross Motor Skills : Faith Preschool has a large gym facility that the students will go into almost daily to engage in large motor skill activities such as riding scooters, playing tag, bean bag games, yoga, free play and much more.
Art Activities: Creating art projects is a fundamental activity that allows students to experiment with scissors, glue, paint and a variety of materials. This is a great time for the students to practice their skills with color and shape identification!
Listening Skills: Listening skills are an integral part of the preschool day. Children learn to listen to teachers, classmates and other adults. They practice following multi-step directions, verbalize their feelings and self direction!
